The School of Foreign Studies was established in 1990 and currently offers four undergraduate programs: English, Japanese, Business English, and Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL). The English major is recognized as one of the first batch of provincial First-class Undergraduate Programs in Hebei Province.
The School is committed to cultivating a new generation of foreign language professionals who can “tell Chinese stories well and spread China’s voice using foreign languages”. Adhering to the educational philosophy of “student-centered excellence” and the motto “Cultivate Virtue and Integrity, Bridge China and the World,” the School has been advancing high-quality development and has trained a large number of outstanding talents serving the economic and social development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
The School currently has more than 1,300 students and 101 faculty and staff members, including 40 professors and associate professors and 15 PhD holders. Among them are 1 Hebei Provincial Teaching Master, 1 Tangshan “Phoenix Youth Talent”, 2 Excellent Teachers, and 1 Model of Teacher Ethics . Over 30 individuals have been honored with school-level titles such as Teaching Master, Excellent Teacher, Model of Teacher Ethics, Teaching Pacesetter, and Sci-Tech Pacesetter. In the past five years, faculty members have participated in three national-level teaching and research projects, led two humanities and social science research projects funded by the Ministry of Education, and undertaken or participated in over 60 provincial-level projects, winning more than 40 provincial and municipal awards for outstanding achievements in social sciences and publishing over 160 academic papers. In the past three years, 24 teachers or teams have won awards in various teaching skill competitions, including 3 first prizes or higher and three second prizes at the provincial level.
With a strong emphasis on student-centered education, the School has built an integrated system combining classroom learning with practical training, effectively strengthening students’ professional competence. Over the past three years, more than 50 students have won awards in provincial or higher-level academic competitions, including 1 grand prize, 1 third prize at national-level, and over 10 provincial grand or first prizes.
Focusing on cultivating application-oriented professionals, the School actively implements the university’s industry-education integration strategy, establishing collaborative platforms for school-enterprise cooperation and joint talent development. The school has signed internship and employment agreements with more than 20 enterprises and institutions, co-established five industry-education integration training centers, and launched the construction of an “Industrial College of Cross-border Digital Trade.” In 2024, the School successfully established three overseas internship bases and organized Japanese major students to participate in internships in Japan.
The School has cultivated a large number of highly skilled professionals serving the economic and social development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, with a graduate placement rate exceeding 90%. Graduates are active in government agencies, foreign trade, education, and cultural exchange sectors. Each year, many students are admitted to prestigious universities such as Renmin University of China, Tianjin University, Lanzhou University, Beijing Language and Culture University, Northeast Normal University, Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the University of Leeds (UK) for master’s studies. In 2025, the number of students admitted to postgraduate programs exceeded 50, reaching an admission rate of 22.1%. Additionally, each year about 20 students are selected as volunteer Chinese language teachers by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, and are dispatched to Southeast Asian countries to engage in international Chinese language teaching.
