School of E-Commerce is one of the earliest established schools at Tangshan University. Its predecessor was the “Department of Management Engineering” established in 1986, which was renamed “Department of Economic Management” in 1988. In December 2019, to provide strong talent support for the construction of Tangshan Comprehensive Pilot Zone for Cross-border E-commerce, School of E-commerce was established by merging relevant majors from the original Department of Economic Management and other departments and schools in Tangshan University. School of E-commerce offers six undergraduate programs, namely Big Data Management and Application, E-commerce, International Economics and Trade, Marketing, Logistics Management, and Information Management and Information Systems, with a total of 1,937 undergraduates. Among them, Big Data Management and Application is a School-Level Key Major; International Economics and Trade, and Marketing are School-Level First-Class Majors; and E-commerce is an Application-Oriented Transformation Major. The school has established two Modern Industrial Colleges specializing in New Media E-commerce and Modern Logistics and Supply Chain, respectively.
The School currently has 81 staff members, including 9 professors, 25 associate professors, and 17 PhD holders, and 60% of the teachers are Dual-Qualified Teachers. The teaching team has won numerous high-level honors, including provincial-level honorary titles of “Three-Three-Three Talent Project” Talent, “Model of Teacher Ethics” “Advanced Moral Education Worker”; municipal-level honorary titles of “Excellent Teacher” and “Education Pioneer”; as well as various school-level honorary titles such as “Teaching Master”, “Model of Teacher Ethics”, etc. In professional competitions such as the Education Information Technology Competition and Teaching Innovation Competition, the staff members have won more than 20 national and provincial awards. With one Provincial Curriculum Ideological and Political Teaching Team and one School-Level Excellent Teaching Team, the School has developed a faculty with dual qualification, strong practical abilities, and a reasonable structure of professional titles, academic degrees, and educational backgrounds.
Focusing on national strategies and regional development needs, the School has established several distinctive research teams specializing in “Digital Economy”, “Regional Innovation”, “Smart Logistics”, and “Cross-Border E-Commerce”, respectively. In recent years, the School has made great achievements in teaching and research, with its faculty successively undertaking or participating in National Social Science Fund projects and several provincial-level and ministerial-level key research projects including Provincial Social Science Fund projects. Some of the achievements have won the First Prize of the Provincial Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award. The faculty have published over 200 academic papers in high-level journals indexed by SCI, SSCI, CSSCI, and Peking University Core Periodical Catalogue as well as other national and provincial journals. Their research capabilities and social service competencies are consistently enhanced.
The School has also made great achievements in building high-quality courses: “Economics” and “Marketing” have been approved as Provincial First-Class Online Course and Curriculum Ideological and Political Demonstration Course, respectively; “E-Commerce Website Construction” and “Marketing” were approved as Provincial Innovation and Entrepreneurship Courses; and “Economics”, “Management” and “International Trade Practice” have been selected as School-Level First-Class Courses.
The School has established close cooperation with more than 30 enterprises, including Yonyou Software and Chinasoft International, to strengthen the construction of experimental centers. It has built 15 training rooms dedicated to Enterprise Operation Simulation, Commercial Visual Effects, Economics Sandtable, and Comprehensive Logistics, etc. Multiple virtual simulation systems have been established, including Cross-Major Comprehensive Training Platform for Virtual Business Society and Cross-Border E-Commerce Comprehensive Training Platform, which have introduced real cases of business operations and enterprise management decisions into the classroom to cultivate students’ ability to comprehensively apply economic management theories and methods, as well as digital intelligence technology, to solve complex business management problems.
The School aims to cultivate high-quality application-oriented talents. In recent years, students have collectively won more than 160 national awards in various professional competitions such as National College Students’ E-Commerce “Innovation, Creativity, Entrepreneurship” Challenge, National College Students’ Engineering Practice and Innovation Ability Competition, National Enterprise Competition Simulation Competition, and National University Business Elite Challenge, including the Top Prize in the 14th National College Students’ E-Commerce “Innovation, Creativity, Entrepreneurship” Challenge in 2024.
In recent years, the employment quality of the School’s graduates has continued to improve, with the average employment rate stable above 90%. Many graduates obtained employment in banks, leading technology enterprises, and well-known information technology companies, such as Agricultural Development Bank of China, China Minsheng Bank, Xiaomi Group, and Chinasoft International, among other large and medium-sized quality enterprises. Some graduates passed the Civil Service Exam and are employed in government agencies such as Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, and Rural Revitalization Bureau. Some graduates are admitted to prestigious universities every year, including Beijing Normal University, University of International Business and Economics, Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, and Hebei University of Technology, to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees.
In the future, School of E-commerce will be “oriented towards the industry, defined by specialization, shaped by application, positioned in teaching, and focused on practice”, continuing to uphold the educational philosophy of “innovation, practice, and excellence”, cultivating more outstanding economic management talents, and contributing more to societal development.
